We are a unique tour and travel agency, based in Mumbai, India, that specializes in guided tours of Dharavi- Asia′s biggest “slum”- a place of poverty and hardship but also a place of enterprise, humour and non-stop activity. By showing this enterprise and community spirit, we hope to try and help dispel the negative image that many people have about Dharavi and slums in Mumbai.

This part of the company is not run for profitable purposes- 80% of the profits after tax from these slum tours go to local NGOs who work for the less privileged members of society.

In May 2007 we opened a community and education centre in alliance with the NGO (charity) called MESCO. MESCO provides vocational training and we aim to provide quality English classes. We recognise that English is very important to enable people to get better jobs, and it gives them status and prestige. NEW** We are developing a new syllabus in collaboration with Malvern House- a language school in London which applies the EFL (English as a foreign language) method of teaching. These classes started in February 2008. We are looking for teachers (paid and volunteers) so please contact us if you are interested and willing to give a 3 months commitment.

NEW** We are very proud to announce our rural tours, which we believe can potentially have as much impact as the Dharavi Slum Tours. The idea behind the tour is to give an understanding of life in the Indian villages. We visit three separate communities (including a tribal community) and you see the way in which they live. Krishna, one of the co-founders of the company acting as tour guide, will explain to you their beliefs, their customs including the role of women, their superstitions, their religion and the problems that they face, and you will be able to ask questions through him.

The company is owned and run jointly by two young guys from India and England, and we understand that the role of the tour guide is vitally important for your enjoyment of the various tours that we run. All the guides speak very good English and have had extensive training so are able to explain in detail the places that we visit. They are also all young, come from modest backgrounds, and are genuinely interested in our customers- this and the fact that we only have group sizes of 5 maximum makes the exchange so much more than just what you visit. We have a NO TIPS POLICY to make the tour as comfortable for you as possible, and we ask you to fill out questionnaires to maintain standards- we take pride in the positive feedback both from these and from comments made on our discussion forum and in the press.
